Ex-NASA astronaut Max Levodolinsky repairs his piece of junk space freighter while arguing with Space Traffic Control about relationships; he gets the news that a hot-shot trainee will be joining him on his next circumlunar run.
Despite his objections, Max is forced to take on a fresh astronautics graduate, Tommie Al-Qasimi; She accidentally unleashes a catastrophic computer virus after learning that she can't stand Max's music.
Max and Tommie race against the clock as the virus takes over their ship and thrusts them into the crosshairs of Earth’s orbital defense systems. To Tommie’s dismay, Max makes the most of some very teachable moments.
Tommie’s boyfriend busts her for using autoreplies to his love letters. But a heart-to-heart about the future reveals a new and even deeper issue between Tommie and Max.
After finding out that Tommie is Max’s replacement, the conversation gets super awkward. But they have to change the subject when their ship gets hit by space junk traveling 10,000 mph.
Everything in their ship got hit…including Max. Now he and Tommie have to cobble together a plan to save their lives as the ship tumbles out of control. But that doesn’t stop them from continuing to argue about music.
They need a spacesuit. Their criminally negligent company didn’t supply one. So now Max is prepping to do a spacewalk using really, really inadvisable substitute gear. Tommie learns what it takes to be a true astronaut.
Looks like the training portion of the flight is over. Can Tommie show that she’s got the right stuff? Will Max survive the hull-walk from hell? Is the Tsiolkovsky on a one-way trip to oblivion…?
