Maria blames herself when the man she wrongly identified is assaulted while in police custody; she must find the robber and anticipate what he might be planning.
A few days before Almedalsuken starts, there is an explosion at a hotel in Visby, and a party leader disappears without a trace.

A plane on its way from Visby must make an emergency landing when a man mysteriously becomes ill on board. The man turns out to be someone other than the one he has pretended to be.

The owner of an antique store in Visby, is found dead in his car. He has been poisoned. Maria and her colleagues start their investigation and find a cavelike space behind a bookshelf, where someone appears to have been kept captive.
Another victim is found dead by the same method – poisoning. As the story unravels there is a chain of events that leads back to a person that was declared dead 10 years ago. Someone is apparently out for revenge.
Maria and her colleagues are informed that 30-year old Minna Lomén has been murdered. Maria drives out to Minna´s house outside Visby to give her husband Per-Erik the sad news only to find that he, too, has been killed.

In the midst of the infamous Stockholm Week in Visby, the Gotland Police receives an emergency call from one of the luxurious villas close to town. At a wild afterparty 20-year old Charlotte Nordenstam is found dead in the water.
The guests all give conflicting stories of what really happened that evening and Maria Wern and her colleagues are left with a complex puzzle to solve. Maria and Sebastian are dating and Maria discovers a secret from Sebastian´s past.
Maria Wern and the Gotland Police are called upon when Stefan Helmersson, MD and Chairman of a well renowned Charity is reported missing. It quickly becomes apparent that has been abducted and an extensive search is initiated.
[Murder in Sweden] With Helmersson being their only possible witness, Maria struggles with the issue of whether they should keep him anesthetized to relieve his pain, or if he should be wakened for the sake of the investigation.
